About Me

Hello, I’m Ed Dudley

I’m an Airline Captain with a major UK airline who has a background in Physics and Computing.  Flying is a real passion for me and I take pride in safely and efficiently transporting my passengers to where they want to go.

Computing and Physics have also given me a useful mix of skills which I enjoy using whenever possible.  In the past I have been involved in many levels of IT from programming all the way to service management and business partnering.

Project Pilot

Gatwick Winter Shadowing

Whilst at Gatwick, I managed a successful programme of winter shadowing.  This enabled pilots to meet with colleagues in different departments, understand their roles and enable better co-operation between departments.  As well as arranging different placements, I was also responsible for rostering pilots on individual days.

This was a complex and data heavy task as each pilot’s individual requirements were taken into account (leave, working preferences, previous shadowing experience, etc).

2009-2012

Junior Business Partner / Business Process Analyst

Basel, Switzerland

Whilst completing my MSc dissertation, I worked in a number of roles at Syngenta. These ranged from technical roles developing websites and databases through to Service Delivery Management and Incident and Problem Management.

After three years I was working as a Junior Business Partner, acting as a liaison between business focussed departments and Information Services. This enabled Syngenta to standardise IT systems internationally, take advantage of local innovations by scaling them up and ensuring any innovations fit within the company’s Enterprise Architecture and IT strategy. In this role I was also an interface between the business and technical teams, making technical concepts understandable for business colleagues and translating business requirements into technical requirements for IT colleagues.

Service Delivery Manager

Managing external suppliers to deliver the production and testing Java environments. I was also involved in improving the helpdesk service and developing an innovative system to deliver bespoke reports to other service delivery managers.

Praktikant

Agronomic Information Services

In this role I was primarily involved in web and mobile development. It was a fascinating role working with weather data to deliver personalised recommendations for farmers, growers and greenskeepers.

2005 - 2008

Midshipman, Vice Mess President

University Royal Naval Unit

I was an active member of Manchester and Salford University Royal Naval Unit, taking part in as many activities as I could whilst studying. These included drill nights, weekends at sea and longer deployments. Whilst at M&S URNU I gained several qualifications such as RYA Day Skipper and attended leadership courses. As Vice Mess President I led the unit in a very successful recruitment drive. I am also very proud to have passed the Admiralty Interview Board.
